Airplane Safety Products

Airplane safety products exist to keep your flight safe. There are airplane safety products you've heard of, and many, many more that you haven't, but they're all designed with safety in mind.

Airplane Safety Products

When you take a flight somewhere, the safety of your aircraft is in the back of your mind. But chances are, you don't think about all airplane safety products beyond what the flight attendants tell you prior to takeoff. Let's face it--airplane safety products just aren't something you're generally in the market for. On this page, we'll go over the basics as well as some airplane safety products you probably don't even think about.

Basic Airplane Safety Products

If pressed to think about airplane safety products, you probably think of seatbelts, oxygen masks and using your seat cushion as a flotation device. It's easy enough to use a seatbelt, but the oxygen masks seem a little complicated. The flight attendants tell you what to do, but do you really honestly know? Most of us, thankfully, have never needed to find out. The same thing goes for the seat cushion.

But did you realize that airplanes also have a lot of the same safety products that you have in your own home? One example is fire extinguishers. It's important to have these on board an aircraft in the event of a small fire. Obviously, this rarely happens, and airlines certainly don't expect it to, but just as with any safety product, it's better to be safe than sorry.

Most airplanes also have first aid kits, and they have them for the same reasons you do at home. You don't anticipate accidents, and you don't want them to happen, but they do, so it's good to be prepared.

There are also a bevy of airplane safety products that most of us don't even think about to keep all our flights safe ones. It's up to the aerospace engineers to know about those, but chances are you've heard that ice forming on airplane wings has been the cause of plane crashes in the past. Obviously, airlines have lots of systems in place to prevent that. Otherwise planes would crash daily in the winter months! But in 2003, a new product called the Clear Ice Prevention System was introduced. It's like an internal warming blanket for an airplanes wings so ice doesn't form. There are lots of other airplane safety items like these that we as passengers never think about. And thankfully, we'll never have to. It's all taken care of for us. All we have to do is sit back and enjoy the flight.
