Important Travel Safety Tips
When you're traveling, you can get so caught up in the excitement of being somewhere new that you might forget common safety practices as well as travel safety practices. There are travel safety tips for traveling by plane, travel safety tips for your hotel, travel safety tips when traveling alone, travel safety tips when traveling with children, travel safety tips for traveling abroad...the list is endless! Here we will outline some basic travel safety tips:
- At the airport, keep your carry-on items near you at all times, preferably between your feet.
- When checking in either at the airport, your hotel...anywhere, try to keep your ID and credit card information out of the line of sight of anyone who's behind you.
- Be aware of your surroundings. Avoid "shady" looking areas.
- Ask your hotel's concierge what the unsafe parts of town are and then avoid those areas.
- At the baggage claim area, try to get to your bag as soon as possible so nobody else can get to it before you do.
- Try to be discreet. In other words, don't wear expensive jewelry, don't flash a lot of cash, etc. All of this tells possible thieves that you're a good target for them.
- Go to the ATM on the way to the airport, not at the airport.
- Try to only stay at hotels that have room keys that you swipe. You want to avoid keys that have your room number on them. If you lose that kind of key, it's an invitation for a thief to go to your room and take your things--or do something worse.
- Lock your hotel room door at night and use any extra locks the door has, like chains, bolts, etc.
Follow these basic rules and you should have a safe trip.
