Ocean Safety And You
The ocean can be a fun time, but you also want to be safe. When it comes to ocean safety you want to take as many precautions as possible. The ocean is unpredictable and can be dangerous. There is much to do on the water, but you want to have a safe time in order to enjoy yourself. Every year hundreds of people drown in the ocean because of poor planning and insufficient ocean safety measures. Nothing spells disaster like poor ocean planning. If you want to have a safe time, take the proper safety measures.
Child Ocean Safety
"We do a lot of traveling as a family, but when we plan we also plan for safety. We have three children who we take everywhere with us and we plan accordingly. We love taking cruises, and even though the cruise line has its own safety measures, we take ours. First of all on our ocean safety guide, we don't take our kids anywhere -- especially on the ocean -- unless they are a certain age. And with the cruise ships, we don't allow our children on the top deck alone. And even if we are with them we don't let them out of our sites. We also make them wear life vests when in the pool area...just in case."
Adult Ocean Safety
"My brother fell overboard on a cruise ship one time. It was the scariest 20 minutes of our lives. It's a good thing there was a fishing bout out to sea not more than a few yards away. They were able to dive in and get him. It took the ship an hour and a half to come to a complete stop and for him to board. He fell overboard standing next to the rail. He lost his balance and slipped. As proper ocean safety -- or boat safety in general -- there should be more safety precautions. It's a good thing nothing too serious happened. But we know now to practice better ocean safety."
